Shanahan Refuses To Name Starting Quarterback

Being the ringleader of the circus that is the Washington Redskins has apparently left head coach Mike Shanahan a little prickly.

Shanahan was asked on Wednesday who would start at quarterback in Sunday’s match-up with the Dallas Cowboys. This is a fair question, mind you. Rex Grossman has reportedly split first team reps with Donovan McNabb this week, leading to speculation that McNabb could be supplanted by Grossman as the starter.

Since McNabb was more or less viewed as a knight on a white horse for Washington this offseason, it’s an intriguing story--one people who are paid to ask questions and write about the answers to those questions are obliged to ask about. All the same, on Wednesday, Shanny wasn’t pleased.

“You want to go through our whole lineup or do you want me to go through each position or do you just want to start with the quarterback?" Shanahan said, per the Dallas Morning News, adding a few moments later, "I don't tell anybody who's starting.”
