THE BEATING OF YOUR HEART: Pleasant Grove is the stuff of legends. The first time I heard the band was 12 years ago. The song was Solid System, it was on a cassette tape and I couldn't believe that someone in their very early 20's could have the kind of baritone that Marcus Striplin possessed. Three years later came Auscultation of the Heart, which many regard as their master work. As is the the trend of late, the band will be performing this seminal album front to back tonight at the Kessler Theater. Tickets are $10.00, doors are at 7 p.m. and the show starts at 8 p.m.
THE SHAKING OF YOUR TOOSH: In need of an all ages shows that will send you into an altered state even if Dr. Pepper is all you imbibe? Well tonight the Loft has your ticket. If you haven't seen Ishi yet, then it's about time you do. Besides the fact that they are playing songs fit for any dance floor on any continent, they make electronic based music fun to watch. Don't believe me? Just try to wear a pair of white Levi's and pull off the kind of moves that John Mudd pulls off on stage with a) a straight face b) the i.d.g.a.f. attitude that he does . Don't know of the moves I speak of? Show starts at 9 p.m. Enough said.
THE EXPANSION OF YOUR MIND: Everyone likes taking their kids to a movie on the weekends to help beat the heat, but if it's three or more attendees things can get pretty pricey pretty quickly. Thankfully the Dallas Museum of Art has been offering Family Films on Sundays through an endowment by the Robert J. O’Donnell Film Series. Tomorrow takes it back old school with Reading Rainbow: The Carousel. In this adventure a carousel is the backdrop for this sensitive story about sisters who search for memories of their mother's legacy. When your done, check out the many other family oriented attractions the museum has to offer. Showtime for Reading Rainbow: The Carousel is at 2 p.m.
