NBC 5 / KXAS-TV INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

NBC 5 offers internships at the station for college students. Basic requirements are:
1. Must be a Junior or Senior
2. Must be able to receive College credit for internship
3. GPA of 2.5 or above

NBC 5 offers internships in News, Internet, Production, Marketing, Sales, Community Affairs and Finance

NEWS
Intern will learn the Assignment Desk, work with the Consumer Unit, assist Associate Producers in all aspects of their job, work with Reporters and Photographers. Student will be able to make a demo tape if desired. At the end of the internship, student will be exposed to all aspects of Broadcast News.

INTERNET
Interns will focus on Internet content for sites like NBCDFW.com. This is easily the best internship you'll ever have. You should have applied yesterday. Here's why.

SPORTS
Sports interns will be responsible for, among other things, masterfiling and archiving aired segments; recording, logging, and sometimes editing sporting events to be used on air; and assisting producers, reporters and photographers both in and out of the field. Interns will have an opportunity to witness and assist a top-10 sports department on a daily basis. Interns must have above-average knowledge of high school, college, and professional sports. The opportunity to put together a demo tape, with professional feedback, is possible for interns that prove that they want to succeed in this field. Interns will work out of the Fort Worth office.

PRODUCTION
Intern will be exposed to all aspects of studio production as it pertains to producing a nightly newscast in an automated environment. This includes, but is not limited to, operation of robotic cameras, shot composition, audio, graphic generation, floor directing,  studio lighting, and basic directing.  

COMMUNITY AFFAIRS
Intern will assist Community Affairs Director with production of public affairs program and production of public service announcements. Student will also assist in communications with various organizations and logging public service announcements.

DESIGN DEPARTMENT
Intern will be responsible for assisting the design staff with the preparation of graphic material for daily newscasts as well as marketing and sales efforts. Included will be a variety of design media such as on-air graphics, print, and web based design efforts. The student intern will also be responsible for maintaining the department's graphic database and archival procedures.

SALES
Sales Intern will learn Nielson Ratings, assist with research for sales support, be able to work with Account Managers and also assist with Power Point presentations. Student will be able to learn entire sales process.

MARKETING
Intern will work with producers, help write promos, find music and video for production. Intern will follow topical producers, write press releases, put together brochures and help coordinate events.

FINANCE
Intern will help with account analysis: analyze financial statements, account reconciliation. Knowledge of Excel a must. Some Power Point would be helpful. Will learn TV Accounting.

WEATHER
-BS in a meteorology program
-Must be enrolled as a meteorology major at an accredited college.
-Must be a junior or senior with a 2.5 GPA or higher
-Must have taken at least one, but preferably two, synoptics courses
-Must earn college credit for internship Interns will learn forecasting skills as well as assisting in making forecasts. You will also learn how to operate weather graphics systems, how to operate a radar and interpret radar displays, how to write stories and report on weather related events. At the end of the internship, we hope to send you off with a great demo tape!
