University of Alabama head coach Nick Saban has been keeping an eye on Rolando McClain this year, as his former player turns over a new leaf with the Dallas Cowboys and, understandably, he likes what he sees.
“Ro’s always been a guy that I’ve had a lot of respect for,” Saban said recently, per the Dallas Morning News. “He was a great leader here and a great player here, a very mature guy. But again, some things sometimes take priority. Before you can really focus on what you’re trying to do as a football player, you have to get those things right in your life. I think he has, and I’m happy to see that he’s having a good year and the Cowboys are doing well.”
McClain, who played for Saban from 2007 to 2009, has 27 tackles, a sack, a forced fumble and two interceptions this season. The former 8th overall pick came out of retirement and joined the Cowboys in July, after Sean Lee suffered a season-ending torn ACL, after Dallas sent a sixth round pick to Baltimore in exchange for his services.
To this point, to say it was a steal is a massive understatement.
