Texas Voters Have Plenty to Say About Gov. Perry

Texans who are casting ballots are expressing ambivalence about many statewide candidates but they're more impassioned when talking about departing Republican Gov. Rick Perry.

Conservative Charles Yancey of Lubbock said Tuesday that 14 years as governor is enough, adding that Perry "needed to go somewhere else."

But Raj Syal, a voter in The Woodlands, says he would have voted for Perry again because he's a known commodity. Syal says at least Perry "knows to leave things alone."

Pat Spurlock, who also voted in The Woodlands, says he would have supported a fourth full term for Perry. Spurlock described himself as a "big supporter" of Perry.

For Melanie Barnes, however, Perry's legacy is a damaging one to the Texas environment. Barnes, a Lubbock Democrat, says Perry has alienated federal environmental officials.
