Woman Found Dead in Southeast Texas House Fire

Officials are investigating after a 79-year-old woman was found dead following a fire at a Southeast Texas home over the weekend.

Police tell the Beaumont Enterprise that two adults and a child safely made it out of the house early Sunday morning in Vidor, about 90 miles east of Houston.

Dorothy Hampshire was pronounced dead by Orange County Justice of the Peace Rodney Price. An autopsy was ordered to determine cause and manner of death.

Orange County Chief Deputy Clint Hodgkinson says volunteer firefighters and sheriff's officials removed Hampshire from the home but couldn't resuscitate her.

Police say another man who lived in the house was not accounted for when the fire was extinguished.

The State Fire Marshal's Office, sheriff's office and fire department are investigating.
