The Palm Restaurant Set to Close After More Than 30 Years

A popular Dallas restaurant is closing its doors.

The Palm has been serving steaks in the West End along Ross Avenue for more than three decades.

But management has announced the restaurant will shut down June 30 over concerns for the safety of customers and staff.

A spokesperson for the restaurant says it is no longer possible to successfully run a business in that location.

When NBC 5 asked the restaurant if there was a specific incident that triggered the closing, they said no but that they take employee and customer safety seriously and made the decision to close.

Dallas City Councilman Philip Kingston, who represents that district, said The Palm never mentioned crime concerns to the city.

"Crime that has occurred there is down compared to a few years ago. The rents are up, which I suspect has more to do with why they're leaving. Everybody who has a restaurant fail wants to create an excuse why it's somebody else's fault, but it's always never true," Kingston said.

Crime in that district is down 5 percent from last year but is up this month by 2 percent.

The Palm says it is looking for a new location somewhere in the DFW area.
