Texas State University Resumes After Bomb Hoax

A bomb threat hoax at Texas State University has forced evacuation of a dormitory and detonation of a package as a precaution.

A spokesman for the school in San Marcos said a non-student was detained for questioning during Tuesday morning's incident. Jayme Blashcke said the estimated 300 residents of College Inn who evacuated to a recreation center returned to the dorm by 6 a.m. Tuesday.

No injuries were reported.

A TSU police officer had detained a person seen smoking, which is banned on campus.

Blashcke said the person's vehicle had what appeared to be a device with an ignition, but Austin police bomb squad members determined it wasn't explosive. X-rays on a second package were inconclusive.

That item was detonated.

Campus police didn't immediately provide an update on the investigation or the detained person.
