TCU Awards Scholarships to FW High School Students

All this week selected high school seniors across Dallas-Fort Worth could be surprised when Texas Christian University hands out their community scholarships.

TCU has awarded 42 community scholarships this year, the most they have given out since the program started 15 years ago. Scholarships include tuition, room and board, books and meal plans to TCU.

Six students at South Hills High School in Fort Worth were surprised with the news Tuesday.

"It's what I want to do ever since I was little," SHHS senior Melina Aguero said. "Get a higher education and make my family proud and change the destiny of my family by doing so to."

SHHS senior Emi Gomez said the scholarship would help her achieve her dream of going to college.

"College is just so important to me because I am a first year generation college student and it's my future,” SHHS senior Emi Gomez said.

All of the students selected had to maintain academic criteria and several other requirements.

Each scholarship is worth approximately $250,000.
