Police Searching For Missing Collin County Woman

Family members of a missing Collin County woman told NBC 5 that their concern is growing.

The Wylie police department confirmed that 42-year-old Almaz Gebremedhin has been missing since Oct. 2.

"Four days, no sign of her car. We are in the dark," Gebremedhin's husband Sisay Zelelew said. "I am in the dark,"

The two have been married for 16 years and have two children, ages 10 and 8. Zelelew said he's known Gebremedhin since she was 16 years old, when the two were living in their native Ethiopia.

"She's a near perfect person," he added.

Gebremedhin's family said she was last seen leaving her Wylie home in the 1500 block of Windward Lane at 5 a.m. Oct. 2. She was wearing scrubs and heading to her job at Garnet Hill Rehabilitation and Skilled Care.

Zelelew told NBC 5 he knew something was wrong when his son and daughter’s school called him saying his wife had not picked up the children. When he called her employer to see if she was busy at work, he said coworkers told him she didn't show up for her shift.

Gebremedhin is 5-feet tall, weights 134 pounds and has black hair and brown eyes. Her silver 2004 Chevrolet Venture van — license plate CVZ-8041 — is also still missing, according to Wylie Police.

The local Ethiopian community is also rallying support, telling NBC 5 they raised money for a reward that they will offer to anyone who provides a significant tip that brings Gebremedhin home.

Garnet Hill Rehabilitation and Skilled Care provided a statement indicating that the company will offer an additional reward of up to $5,000 for information that helps find Gebremedhin.

"We share her family's concern for her welfare, and we hope for her safe return," the statement also read. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the Gebremedhin family during this difficult time."
