Police Release Dash Cam Video of Lake Worth Pursuit

Dash camera video, and the corresponding audio from police dispatch, captured the moments before and after a brief pursuit and a head-on, wrong way collision in Lake Worth last week.

The incident happened Thursday, April 4, after a theft call from the Home Depot near Northwest Loop 820/Jim Wright Freeway and Jacksboro Highway.

Officers were called to the Home Depot just before noon, according to police. But before they arrived, two men wanted in connection to the thefts drove off in a black Dodge pickup.

The dash camera video, released to NBC 5, is from two separate officers who had been dispatched to the "theft in progress call."  The dispatcher can then be heard telling officers that the vehicle was seen heading for the highway.

One of the officers in pursuit, having just spotted the truck, said over the radio, "He's westbound in the eastbound service road lane. We aren't going to be able to pursue him anymore."

The pursuit itself lasted only minutes before the truck collided head-on with another truck in the eastbound lanes of westbound Loop 820.

Both of the people in the truck were taken to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth for treatment of their injuries.

Police have charged the driver in connection to the theft, pursuit and crash. The driver of the other truck was not hurt.
