Police: Oak Cliff Woman, 82, Found Dead

Dallas police asked for public help Friday finding the nephew of an 82-year-old woman found murdered in her Oak Cliff home.

Atreall Campbell shared her home in the 7900 block of Trojan Street near Interstate 45 and Loop 12 with 47-year-old Algie Olivon Patton.

The woman's red SUV was missing from her home early Friday and so was Patton.

The nephew has a long criminal record, and relatives said the woman wanted Patton out of her house.

“I told momma that he was on drugs real, real bad, and that he could not be trusted,” said Campbell’s son, the Rev. Paul Alexander.

Campbell’s sister, Hester Johnson, said Patton roamed the street at night and slept all day.

“She was going to put him out. That’s what she told me. She was going to put him out. She’d had all she could take,” Johnson said.

Friday afternoon, Campbell’s son found the missing SUV at a South Jim Miller Road apartment complex.

Neighbors said Patton had been there, too, but he was gone by the time police came to seize the vehicle for evidence.

“Due to the nature of this offense, homicide detectives are seeking the whereabouts of Mr. Patton,” said Dallas Police Lt. Thomas Castro.

But police are not calling Patton a suspect.

“Right now, we’re not ruling anybody out. He’s just, right now, a person we would like to talk to,” Castro said.

Alexander said he is praying for justice.

“It’s not only shocking. It’s really sad. It makes you think there is a monster or a beast,” he said.

Police ask anyone with information to call Detective Michael Yeric at (214) 283-4803.
