Dallas County Police Chase Ends When Truck Runs Out of Gas

A police pursuit involving Dallas County sheriff's deputies and Mesquite police officers ended after nearly an hour when the driver leading the chase apparently ran out of gas.

The incident started at about 5:50 p.m. at Target in the 1600 block of North Town East Boulevard in Mesquite.

Officials said a man fought with a store security guard, then fled the store with stolen merchandise.

The man drove away in a gold-colored pickup truck.

At times the truck traveled on the opposite side of the road, blew through several red lights and stop signs, and speeds reached 90 miles per hour, police later said.

The truck briefly pulled over and a passenger bailed out near Nogales Drive and Webb Chapel Road.

Police quickly apprehended the man who bailed.

The chase continued for about 25 more minutes until the pickup ran out of gas near Oates Drive and La Prada Drive.

With their guns drawn, officers surrounded the truck and the driver surrendered.

The driver was identified as 45-year-old Joe Sanchez, of Dallas. His passenger was 36-year-old Marlon Duran, of Dallas, police said.

Sanchez is charged with robbery and evading arrest, and Duran is charged with a single outstanding warrant.

The store security guard had minor injuries that did not require a trip to the hospital, police said.
