Oak Lawn Burglary Suspects Caught on Surveillance Video

Memorial Day weekend was supposed to be a long break from work for an Oak Lawn couple. Instead, they were victims of a break-in at their Dallas townhouse.

"Was it at random? It could have been," said one of the victims, who didn't want NBC 5 to use her name. "How does someone have the guts to to just break into someone's house like that?"

The surveillance video shows a man knocking at the door around 4:30 p.m. Sunday.

"Whenever someone rings the doorbell, I get an alert on my phone," the homeowner explained. "Even my fiance texted me and said, 'Who's at the doorbell?'"

In hindsight, she thought that was probably the first suspect, making sure no one was home. About one half-hour later, two other suspects are seen on surveillance video knocking on the door and then using a crowbar to pry it open.

"And that's what made me, like, just have a panic attack," she said. "To see these men running through my living room."

She's now afraid to be home.

"This is my house and I just want to feel safe," the victim said through her tears. "I don't feel safe."

The thieves got away with a couple of designer handbags, scarves, jewelry and an iPad. The crime has the victims wondering about the safety of their neighborhood. They live blocks away from where people in the LGBT community have been attacked in Oak Lawn in recent months.

"They're bad guys, so everyone needs to be on alert," the victim pleaded, hoping surveillance video helps catch the thieves. "Hopefully it doesn't have to happen again."
