Man Dies After Being Crushed by Trash Compactor

A man who was crushed by the compactor of a sanitation truck Wednesday morning died at a local hospital, officials say.

The Tarrant County medical examiner identified the man as 41-year-old Chad Adams.

With temperatures dropping into the 20s overnight Tuesday, Adams was believed to be seeking shelter and sleeping inside the trash bin in the parking lot at East Lancaster Avenue and N. Hughes Avenue.

A sanitation truck picked up the trash bin Wednesday morning and dropped the contents into the compactor.

As the compactor engaged, the driver of the truck reportedly heard a man screaming.

Officials with MedStar said paramedics performed CPR on Adams while transporting him to a nearby hospital.

Adams underwent surgery at John Peter Smith Hospital, where he later died.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office said Adams died because his pelvis was crushed. His death was ruled accidental.

NBC 5's Christina Miralla and Kevin Stewart contributed to this report.
