Livestrong Charity Announces New CEO for Post-Armstrong Era

Cancer-fighting charity Livestrong has named a new CEO as the foundation continues to dig out from the performance-enhancing drug use scandal of founder Lance Armstrong.

Chandini Portteus joins Austin-based Livestrong after nearly 10 years at the Susan G. Komen for the Cure, the world's largest breast cancer foundation. She replaces Doug Ulman, who left in 2014 to lead Columbus, Ohio-based Pelotonia.

Livestrong was started by Armstrong in 1997 and grew from a small foundation into a $500 million global brand.

Revenue and donations dropped sharply after Armstrong's 2013 confession to using steroids and other drugs to win the Tour de France a record seven times from 1999 to 2005.

At Komen, Portteus was chief mission officer for strategy and programming around research, community health, public policy and global programs.
