Fire Destroys Three-Story Apartment Building in Dallas

A massive three-alarm fire destroyed an apartment building early Thursday morning in Dallas.

The three-story apartment building is located in the Tealwood on the Creek community at 6050 Melody Lane  near Northwest Highway and Greenville Avenue in Dallas.

The fire was first reported around 7 a.m.  By 8:30 a.m., firefighters had most of the fire out except for a  few hotspots.

"Around 7 a.m., my niece woke us up telling us to get out, the house is on fire. So we just jumped up. I came outside with no coat on, no shoes on," said resident Keisha Thompson.

Thompson said she had just moved into her apartment four days ago and bought new living room furniture. She was grateful firefighters rescued her dog.

Residents said they smelled smoke throughout the morning but did not know where it was coming from until they went outside and saw flames.

It is not yet known what started the fire, but it is believed to have started on the third floor before quickly spreading to the roof.

Dallas Fire-Rescue has requested two DART buses be sent to the complex so that displaced residents have a warm place to sit while awaiting aid from the Dallas Red Cross.

There were no injuries reported.
