Lenovo Recalls Nearly 150,000 Battery Packs

Lenovo officials recalled battery packs for a brand of their laptop computers due to fire hazard, according to U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.

Lenovo recalled about 148,800 battery packs sold with ThinkPad notebook computers in the United States and 17,700 more in Canada. The battery packs were also sold separately. The company also recalled more than 37,000 battery packs in March 2014.

The company received four reports of the battery packs overheating and damaging computers and surrounding property. In one case, a consumer's skin turned red and their clothes were burned.

Officials said consumers should immediately turn off their computer and contact Lenovo for a replacement. Consumers can continue to use their computers without the battery pack by plugging them into an outlet.

Recalled battery packs measure between 8 to 11 inches long, 1 to 3 inches wide and about 1 inch high. They were sold at stores nationwide and online from February 2010 through June 2012.
