Latest Sexual Assault in South Dallas Scares Community

Residents in the area say they fear for their safety, urges FBI to get involved

As Dallas police continue their search for a serial rapist in South Dallas, residents in the area are growing increasingly fearful.

"It could be anybody, we was looking around, it could be somebody riding a bike, it could be somebody walking, we don't know who this guy is," said Dallas resident Okema Thomas.

Thomas said her cousin witnessed the latest sexual assault, which happened before 5:00 a.m. Saturday at Pennsylvania Avenue and Holmes Street. That's near I-45 and US Highway 175.

"She heard some noise about four o'clock this morning, and a guy in her apartment went outside, you know to see what it was, and found a woman, she was putting up her clothes, and she has been sexually assaulted, she had been raped," Thomas said.

Police are looking to see if this case is related to the serial rapist who is still on the run. On Saturday, police identified the suspect in those cases as Van Dralan Dixson.

Although police presence beefed up in the Fair Park area throughout Saturday, some residents said that wasn't enough to make them feel safe.

"We need a lot more," said Dallas resident Tasha Robinson. "Definitely, because it can happen again at any moment."

Thomas is taking it a bit further as asking for the feds to get involved.

"I just want to know if Chief Brown, have he informed the FBI? This is a FBI situation because DPD is not on top of it," she said.

Police are asking the public for tips. There is a $15,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction.
