Irving ISD Board Trustee Arrested For Theft

An Irving ISD Board Trustee is out of jail after being arrested and accused of theft.

Irving Police said officers arrested 42-year-old Norma Callejas Gonzales after responding to report of a theft at the Walmart on Market Street. The reporting party said she left the location in a silver Dodge Neon. The call came in Saturday at 6:09 a.m.

Officers said an anti-theft alarm activated as Gonzales walked out of the store. Walmart loss prevention officers contacted her but she refused to stay at the store.

Officers took Gonzales into custody in the 7800 block of North MacArthur.  They report Walmart property worth $184.01 was found in her purse.

She was booked into the Irving jail, where she posted bond and was released by Saturday evening.

Gonzales represents District 6 of Irving ISD. A district website said her term experies in 2016.

Gonzales' arrest is another setback for the Irving ISD. On Friday, Melody Paschall, the Associate Superintendent of Academic Services, resigned.

District superintendent Dr. Bana Bedden resigned in early July.

There are 34,000 students in the Irving ISD.
