Families Rush to Complete New Homes for Holidays

Some people hoping to be in a new home for the holidays won't make it in time this year.

"You feel Christmas is in the air, everyone is excited, everyone wants to move in to their brand new home," said Plano real estate agent Jamuna Thill. "You can't get everybody in before Christmas. You just can't."

Many home buyers scramble to get in their new homes in time for the holidays, but the year's record wet weather is causing construction delays, while lending rules are causing other delays.

"Weather does affect real estate, and it does affect new construction build jobs," said Thill. "So a lot of them I know have been delayed, you know, trying to get people in."

Others are getting into their new homes in just the nick of time.

"We moved just two weeks ago, and this is really [a] rush for me because holidays are coming," said Poornima Madhukar, who just moved to Collin County with her family from Chicago.

"My brother, my sister and my whole gang, they are all coming, so OK! We are back to the holiday spirit," said Madhukar. "So I really got to get this going, I need to clean up the house, I need to unpack everything, get everything ready."

"Spending time together with the family is more important than anything," said Madhukar.
