The Salvation Army is providing 15 cooling stations across North Texas for residents to keep cool this summer as temperatures hit the triple digits.
The cooling stations opened on June 18 and will provide relief for the homeless, people without air conditioning and those who work outside. The stations provide two necessary things for those who are at risk of heat exposure: hydration and a cool environment.
Last summer, local Salvation Army cooling stations averaged more than 300 visits a day at all locations combined. The main shelter in Dallas had more than 4,000 visits.
Two cooling stations with the most traffic will be open seven days a week housed at The Salvation Army's emergency shelters located at:
