City Completes Forest Park Boulevard “Road Diet”

A 1.5 mile stretch of Forest Park Boulevard has lost weight after going on a "road diet" -- at least, that's the way the City of Fort Worth describes it.

The city put the 4-lane road on a "diet," shrinking it to two lanes in an effort to make the road more safe.

The city said 16,000 cars use the road each day.

However, that many cars with only two lanes didn't sit well with everyone. One man started a petition to stop the work and about 150 people are on a Facebook page called "Stop Forest Park Road Diet 2013."

The city said the big idea is speed -- a city survey shows 42 percent of drivers go faster than the speed limit of 35 mph.

In the last three years, 41 crashes have been reported on the road.

While the city said it can't completely eliminate crashes, they believe this plan will make the road safer for when crashes do occur.

The slimmed road is also safer for pedestrians by making there fewer lanes to cross.

The work was completed the first week of November.
