Extra Protection Added for Teachers This Fall

Texas cities will soon be required to inform educators when their students have a criminal record.

Under the "Teacher Protection Bill" measure, teachers must be informed within one school day if their student has been arrested or convicted of certain crimes.

The Plano Star reports the measure goes into effect state wide on Sept. 1.  The bill only applies to crimes committed after that date.

The measure was passed last month before the Texas legislature's regular session ended.
