Election Judge Found Dead in Home: Grand Prairie Police

Grand Prairie police said an election judge was found dead in his home Tuesday morning after he failed to show up and unlock the doors at a polling location.

Grand Prairie police confirmed they found the judge, Gary Cox, at his home at about 8:15 a.m. after they were asked to perform a safety check.

Police said the judge died of natural causes and foul play was not suspected.

An alternate judge was called to fill in at the judge's polling location, which opened an hour-and-a-half late, at 8:30 a.m. and resulted in lines early on.

Dallas County Elections Administrator Toni Pippins-Poole said Cox had been an election judge for at least four years at Warmack Library.

Dallas County election officials have extended the voting hours at that particular polling location - Dallas County Precinct 4502, located at the Betty Warmack Library on 760 Bardin Road in Grand Prairie - until 9 p.m. Tuesday.
