A man has been arrested in connection with the death of a 16-year-old coastal Texas girl who had been missing for several days.

Aransas Pass police said they took 18-year-old Lawrence A. Mireles into custody Saturday on a warrant tied to the killing of Jenna Hernandez.

The girl's body was discovered Thursday by a fisherman near a path close to the water.

Jail officials said Mireles is being taken to the San Patricio County jail but formal charges weren't yet filed and they did not know whether he had an attorney.

Authorities have not disclosed how Hernandez died.

The Corpus Christi Caller-Times reports that she had been texting with someone before leaving to meet the person.

Donna Hernandez, the teen's aunt, said Mireles is a distant cousin.
