Dallas County Jail System Passes State Inspection for 6th Time

The Dallas County jail system has passed its state inspection for sixth consecutive time.

The Texas Commission on Jail Standards completed their week-long inspection of the seventh largest jail in the nation and met with the Dallas County Commissioner's Court.

Before 2010, the jail had failed each inspection since 2002.

Shannon Herklotz, assistant director with the Texas Commission on Jail Standards, stated that the jail was clean and met all safety measures.

Herkoltz also stated that the Dallas County Jail went beyond the mandated quarterly life safety training with monthly training.

"The effort is a culmination of work done by every employee of the Dallas County Sheriff's Department in collaboration with Dallas County Commissioners Court, Parkland Hospital, the Dallas County Facilities Department, the Dallas County Fire Marshal's office, and the District Attorney's office," said Sheriff Lupe Valdez.

The Dallas County Sheriff's Department is set to receive an official certificate of compliance.
