Dallas City Workers Rescue Truck Driver in Creek

Two Dallas city employees were among a group of people who came to the rescue of a co-worker whose truck plunged into White Rock Creek after an apparent medical emergency Tuesday morning.

The driver lost control of his city truck near Lanshire Drive and Goforth Road and careened into the chilly water.

A group of witnesses, including two fellow city employees, soon rushed to help free the man from the truck cab, which was filling with water.

Rescuer and city employee Raul Alamillo Jr. said when he got to the front of the truck, he realized the driver was someone he knew.

“He is a really good friend of mine,” said Alamillo.

Alamillo grabbed a metal bar and was able to break the passenger side window and, along with co-worker Brent English, helped get the driver out.

Oscar Andrade was in the back of the truck and worked to get him out as well.

“I don't even know how to swim, and the truck started sliding more into the creek. And I was like, 'Oh well.' We had to get him out first,” said Andrade.

Once the driver was pulled onto dry land, the rescuers stayed and got him wrapped in blankets before paramedics arrived.

The driver was taken to a nearby hospital and is in serious condition, a city spokeswoman said Wednesday.
