DISD Trustees Warn Miles to “Keep Quiet”

The Dallas school board has a warning for its superintendent: keep quiet or you could be fired.

A letter from the board president outlines 11 rules that Mike Miles must comply with while an independent investigation is ongoing.

The district decided last week to hire an independent investigator to look into whether Miles violated district policy by trying to influence a six-figure service contract.

His communications director, Rebecca Rodriguez abruptly resigned after she complained about Miles misusing his power to pull the contract issue from the agenda.

A new confidential investigation report released on trustee Carla Ranger's blog reveals Rodriguez also claims that Miles repeatedly bullied her.

The district's top investigator insists Miles obstructed him from doing his job and recommended hiring a former U.S. Attorney to look into possible wrong-doing.

Now, the board is putting it's foot down, saying Miles can't stand in the way of the investigation or intimidate anyone who's cooperating with investigators.

Miles can't talk to news reporters about the investigation and can't talk about Rodriguez.  He also can't destroy any documents about Rodriguez or the investigation.

Miles complains the district is releasing confidential information about the investigation against him and insists he's done nothing wrong.
