Collision Forces Closure of NB I-35 Near Waco

A collision involving two tractor-trailers on Interstate 35 south of Waco forced the closure of northbound lanes and a traffic backup extending more than 10 miles.

Bruceville-Eddy police Cpl. William Stogner says one tractor-trailer struck another from behind Tuesday morning in McLennan County. The big rig that struck the other caught fire and was destroyed.

Stogner says a Waco police officer on his way to work pulled the unconscious driver from the cab as flames consumed the vehicle.

The driver of each vehicle was taken to a hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening.

The collision happened in a construction zone that's become a signature of travel along the I-35 corridor south of Waco.

Northbound traffic began moving again later Tuesday morning but the backup extended 10 to 12 miles.
