Collin County Group Forms to Buy Body Armor for Local Police

About 1 month after the tragic attack on police in Dallas, a Collin County couple is launching a new group to help protect other officers caught in dangerous situations.

Brandon Bryce and his wife just filed for federal charitable status last week to create the new group called Collin County Adopt-a-Cop.

Modeled after similar programs in Fannin, Lamar, and Hopkins Counties, the group works to find donors in the community to help buy Level 4 Tactical Vests for officers who usually don’t have access to one.

Bryce said he began reaching out to departments throughout the county on Thursday and Friday to find officers that people could symbolically adopt and fund-raise for.

The groups work with vendors to get that armor at a discount so it’s ready in case of a rapid deployment event.

Bryce plans to work especially close with smaller departments where gear like that isn’t often an option in the budget or even larger ones where it’s only often given to SWAT teams.

After only being in existence for a few days, Bryce is really just trying to gain support for the effort and spread word.

They have set up a Facebook page and hope to have a list of ‘adoptable officers’ in the works soon.
