Boy Injured in Hit-and-Run: โ€œI Am Feeling Better Because it is Halloweenโ€

Driver of white pickup truck that stuck 7-year-old has not been found

Police are still searching the hit-and-run driver that injured a 7-year-old West Dallas boy on his birthday on Saturday.

Lorenzo Cantu spent his seventh birthday in the hospital after a white pickup truck hit him, but Halloween perked him up.

His stepgrandfather, Oscar Andrade, said he was surprised by his enthusiasm.

"He came down at six this morning, already in uniform, ready to go," he said. "I said, 'Where are you going?' He said, 'School.'"

When Cantu got home, he put on his punk-rock zombie costume. Even though he is still limping, he went trick-or-treating with his mother.

"I am feeling better because it is Halloween," he said.

"You can't sit and mope; you got to keep on moving on," said his mother, Victoria Cantu.

Her son barely remembers the hit-and-run crash, which was captured on surveillance video.

He was struck Saturday afternoon before his birthday party while crossing the street. He had been playing outside while his mother was preparing for his birthday party.

His family said they hope someone recognizes the truck.

"It is a terrible thing that he hasn't been caught yet," Andrade said.
