Armed Robbers Target Denton Stores

Denton police are looking for help in identifying two armed men who have robbed a smoke shop and two convenience stores.

All three robberies were captured on survelliance cameras.

Two men in hooded sweatshirts and masks robbed Easy's Smoke Shop on May 23. One pointed a gun at the clerk and demanded money.

"It was so aggressive and so -- I hate to use the word brutal, because no one was hurt physically -- but mentally, it was horrifying," manager Dee Wakefield said.

She was asleep at home when one of her clerks called to tell her about the robbery.

"I was in shock," Wakefield said. "I mean, I couldn't really believe what I was hearing."

Officer Ryan Grelle said the men also robbed the S&B Convenience Store across the street one week later and the Howdy Doody Convenience Store on June 9.

"They are three for three right now," Grelle said. "Anytime a weapon is involved -- like a gun on this one -- we are always concerned. We don't want it to escalate to where someone is shot or, heaven forbid, killed."

Police said they believe the two men worked the first two robberies together while one of them committed the third alone.

"You're disappointed because, naturally, everyone wants them to get caught," Wakefield said.

Anyone without information about the robberies should contact Denton County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-388-TIPS (8477). Callers will remain anonymous.
