45,000 American Flags Planted in Trophy Club

This weekend, the stars and stripes are out in full force.

From fireworks to t-shirts to fingernails, people are eager to show off their patriotism.

But the town of Trophy Club is taking their pride to the next level.

Volunteers spend Saturday planting tens of thousands of American flags along streets in town.

Sisters Raegan and McKenzie Arata have participated in the Trophy Club Stars and Stripes event for the past three years.

“It’s so cool because you see the whole town come together to this and like, so when you drive down the streets of trophy club the whole streets are filled with flags,” McKenzie said.

The flags are planted individually. The display spans the entire town.

When the event began five years ago, 10,000 flags were planted. Now, there are more than 45,000.

The population of Trophy Club in 2013 was 10,459, according to the US Census Bureau.

“Our goal is to have every street lined within the next two years and that will put us at over 65,000 flags,” said Trophy Club Stars and Stripes organizer Tiffany Nimphius.

The flags are paid for entirely through donations.

They will line the route for Trophy Clubs 4th of July parade on Monday.

The Parade of Patriots starts at 9:30am.

The fireworks show happens Monday night.
