2 Killed in Separate Fatality Crashes in Dallas Saturday Night

Victims in fatality crashes not yet identified

Dallas police are investigating two unrelated fatality crashes that occurred late Saturday.

The first crash took place at about 10:15 p.m. when the driver of a Toyota Scion crashed into the back of a tractor-trailer stopped at a traffic light.

The driver tried to avoid the collision and switch lanes, but collided with the corner of the trailer, sending the Scion spinning across the median where it eventually stopped when it hit a light pole.

A passenger in the Scion was killed at the scene. The driver was transported to Parkland Memorial Hospital in serious condition.

No further injuries were reported.

The second crash occurred just 10 minutes later when a pedestrian walked onto a highway access road from a wooded area and was struck by two passing cars.

Police said the driver of a 2000 Chevrolet Lumina was headed north on the 6700 block of S. Central Expressway at the Lamar Street off ramp when a woman walked into the road.

The woman was hit first by the driver of the Lumina and then by a second passing vehicle. The driver of the Lumina stopped and remained at the scene; the second driver drove away after the crash.

The pedestrian, whose name has not been released, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Police have not said if the driver of the Lumina is expected to face any charges, but they did say the pedestrian was not in a crosswalk when the collision occurred.
