Police Pepper Spray Frenzied Shoppers

Town East Mall crowd gets unruly

Mesquite police this morning resorted to using pepper spray on unruly shoppers…twice.

A throng gathered outside Town East Mall in anticipation of the mall’s opening at 6 a.m. The grand shopping prize? A pair of Cool Grey 11 sneaks, the limited-edition new breed of Air Jordans, priced at $175-$200 per pair.

Mesquite police say a kid got pushed up against a door before the mall opened for business, and police had to spray the crowd of 400 to 500, um, people when they tried to crush through a door opened to extricate the kid from danger.

The frothing horde made another push, this time breaking a door, and police again used pepper spray on the mob. No word on whether or not the mob carried torches and pitchforks.

OK, so those are some pretty sweet looking sneaks, but people are willing to go all Who in Cincinnati for them?

People, people, people, peace on Earth, good will toward fellow humans, and all that. It’s just a pair'a damn shoes.

Bruce Felps owns and operates East Dallas Times, an online community news outlet serving the White Rock Lake area. He didn’t know those sneaks existed. Now he just has to have a pair.
