Country music great Randy Travis released a new music video on his Twitter and Facebook pages Tuesday, just more than a year after heart failure and a stroke threatened to end his career.

But nowhere in the video does the music star make an appearance.

Friend and business partner James Hilliard, who co-owns Clark's Outpost BBQ with Travis, said the Tioga native is on the road to recovery but beating everyone's expectations.

Hilliard told NBC 5 he was walking on his own and able to say a few words when he came to the restaurant for a meal last week.

"He wasn't jogging, I mean. But he was up and walking and seemed to be getting better, you know. He's a fighter, and he's pushing himself a little too much. But from six months ago, it's leaps and bounds," Hilliard said.

His friend said Travis is even riding his horses on his land, five miles from the restaurant.

"There were rumors that he'd never come back or anything, but if somebody can, it's somebody like him, who's driven," Hilliard said.

Last summer, Travis was admitted to The Heart Hospital in Plano following heart failure and a subsequent stroke requiring surgery.

An email to Travis' public relations spokesperson about the release of the new video was not returned Tuesday evening.
