Dallas St. Patrick's Parade on Saturday After the Holiday

If you're making plans to hang out with a few thousand of your closest friends at the Dallas St. Patrick's Parade and Festival, mark your calendar for March 19.

Traditionally, the parade is held the Saturday before St. Patrick's Day, but this year it's the Saturday after. By the way, this is the 37th anniversary of the parade.

Billed as "the largest St. Patrick's Parade in the Southwest" the parade features more than 1,700 parade participants and 90 floats along a 2-mile route with more than 125,000 people in lining the streets.

According to the folks at GuideLive.com the St. Patrick's Day debauchery will be spread out from Thursday, March 17 to the finale on Saturday, March 19 with the parade and party along Greenville Avenue.

This year's musical guest is Third Eye Blind. The band will play in Energy Square at the corner of Greenville Avenue and University Boulevard.

The parade along Greenville Boulevard starts at 11 a.m. at Blackwell Street and ends at SMU Boulevard.

Anyone planning to go to the parade is encouraged to ride DART to Mockingbird, Lovers Lane and Park Lane Stations.

The celebration continues all day along Greenville. Some points along lower Greenville are a construction zone.

"St. Patrick's Day is huge for the entire street. I mean it's a big day for us," said Abel Cisneros of Dallas Beer Kitchen. "Our strategy was, we're gonna do happy hour every hour until contruction is done."

Dallas Beer Kitchen is one of the newer bars hoping to get a piece of the St. Patrick's Day celebration.

"I wouldn't miss it," said customer Josue Perez. "You could block this out with construction up and down and I think people are still going to show up!"
