"Little Red Riding Hood" is about to get a whole lot darker – thanks to Leonardo DiCaprio.

Leo's Appian Way production company is set to put a gothic spin on the classic tale, according to Variety.

However, it's unlikely Leo will star in the film.

The movie will be based on the classic Brothers Grimm 19th century tale, in which a wolf in disguise tricks a young girl into delivering food to her sick grandmother in the forest.

While the Brothers Grimm put a happy ending on the story, the original version written by Charles Perrault actually ends with the girl being eaten by the wolf.

Leo and his Appian Way company are currently gearing up to release the thriller "Shutter Island," directed by Martin Scorsese and starring Leo.

Leo was last seen on the big screen in 2008's "Body of Lies" and "Revolutionary Road."
