Romo Named Finalist For “Never Say Never Moment Of The Year”

Tony Romo was nominated for his week 2 performance against San Francisco

The Dallas Cowboys got well-acquainted with so-called “never say never” moments in 2011, and almost always came out on the wrong side of them. The 2011 edition of the Cowboys routinely coughed up secure leads to lose in the waning moments of games--including four losses after holding double digit fourth quarter leads--but once, the tables were turned.

In week two, Tony Romo orchestrated a fourth quarter comeback against the San Francisco 49ers while dealing with a fractured rib and punctured lung, and this lone instance of Dallas being on the right side of a “never say never moment” was recently nominated for an award--fittingly called the GMC “Never Say Never Moment of the Year” award.

Romo’s performance is one of five finalists for the award, which will be presented the night before the Super Bowl. Interestingly, of all the instances of Dallas snatching defeat from the hands of victory this season, none of Dallas’ opponents in these games were nominated for the award.

Which, we suppose, may be due to the fact that, at some point, the voters just stopped being surprised by teams coming back on Dallas. That was the case for us, anyway.

You can see the rest of the nominees, via the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, here.
