Undrafted rookie Lucky Whitehead has turned some heads in Oxnard, just as he turned heads at Valley Ranch in the offseason.
Head coach Jason Garrett recently named the Florida Atlantic product as one of the guys he’s most looking forward to seeing in Thursday’s preseason opener in San Diego. As of now, anyway, Whitehead is the frontrunner to take over the receiver/return man/gunner role left vacant by Dwayne Harris, who left in free agency to sign with the Giants this offseason.
“Oftentimes when you unearth a guy, a guy shows you that he does belong,” Garrett said, per the Dallas Morning News. “We have a number of those guys on our team right now. Some of our better players came from those places. Lucky’s done a nice job up to this point. It will be fun to watch him play Thursday.”
Garrett is far from the only person Whitehead has impressed in camp, of course. Owner Jerry Jones, too, had some high praise for the rookie recently.
“Lucky has been impressive out here,” Jones said. “He seems to always be there solid and he seems to be there in a football playing mood and position. And I like that. That’s hard to do for a rookie. This is a big adjustment. I think he’s doing well.”
