Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett told reporters this week that he was aware of the NFC East standings, but he refused to focus on them as the team prepares for a divisional match-up with the Washington Redskins.
Going into this game, Dallas is second in the division--a game back of the East-leading Giants and two games ahead of the Redskins and the Philadelphia Eagles.
“I’m certainly aware of what their records are, the teams in our division,” Garrett said, per the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “But if you get so focused on how this team did against them, early on in the season in particular, you are not focused on the right things.”
Judging by the remarks of veteran safety Abram Elam, Garrett’s head-down, one-game-at-a-time approach to the season has rubbed off on the players in the Dallas locker room.
“We hear it,” Elam said. “At the same time, that’s not our focus. Our focus is what goes on in this locker room and what we need to do. That’s what the main thing is we’re focused on moving forward.”
