New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees hasn’t declared himself available for his team’s Sunday night matchup with the Dallas Cowboys this weekend, but he certainly sounds optimistic.

Brees threw on the Saints’ day off Tuesday to test his bruised rotator cuff, and was encouraged enough by that to throw in practice on Wednesday. It was his first practice reps since he suffered the injury in Week 2, and he came away feeling “really good” about his chances of playing this week.

"I'll see how the shoulder responds tomorrow and for the rest of the day. But each day I'm able to do more and more; each day I feel stronger," Brees said, per ESPN Dallas. "Each day there's more range of motion, more strength, and so that's the key."

The shoulder injury forced Brees to miss last week’s matchup with the Panthers and, even though backup Luke McCown played well, going 31 of 38 for 310 yards, no touchdowns and an interception, the Saints lost 27-22 to fall to 0-3 on the season.
