An adult and two children were killed in a rollover crash involving two vehicles along U.S. Highway 75 in Plano Friday afternoon.
Police said three adults and four children were riding in an SUV at about 1:15 p.m. when it rolled over near the 15th Street exit.
Witnesses told police it appeared the driver of the white Dodge Durango seemed indecisive about whether he wanted to enter the HOV lane. They said he lost control when he entered at the last minute.
Police say the SUV struck the concrete divider and a pole before flipping into the main lanes. It was struck by an oncoming car, they said.
NB 75 Closed Due to Fatal Crash
The driver of the other vehicle, who was the sole occupant of that vehicle, was not injured in the crash.
Police said responding officers performed CPR on two children before they were taken to a hospital.
One child died at the scene and another child died at the hospital, police said.
"It's heartbreaking for us all, and our hearts are broken," said Plano Traffic Investigator Andrae Smith.
An 18-year-old family friend was tossed from the SUV and died at the scene.
Police said the children in SUV, ranging in age from six to 14 years old, are all related.
The two parents were not injured.
The family is from Denison, and it's believed they were driving home after picking up a child in Dallas County.
Police are not releasing the names of victims until the 18-year-old's next of kin are notified.
All northbound lanes of U.S. 75 were closed until about 5:30 p.m. while officials worked at the crash scene.
