What’s retro is returning to North Texas.
A young Dallas businessman is bringing back the best of the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s and he’s doing it all in a parking lot with something that makes him standout from your typical street seller.
“It’s a 1980 Chevy school bus. We bought it in Oklahoma, a Craigslist kind of a thing,” said Jeremy Turner who opened ‘The Vintagemobile’ in July.
Against advice from the seller, Turner drove it back.
“Yeah, surprisingly the guy I bought it from he was like, ‘I don’t know if I would drive it to Dallas,' but it has worked great,” said Turner.
Parked every weekend outside Oak Cliff’s ‘Smoke’, the bus becomes a fashion flashback.
“We generally carry things from the 50’s to the 80’s. We have some 40’s things, but we have a lot of mid-century dresses a lot of dresses from the 50’s,” said Turner.
“Very cool! Very cool! I walked out $80 later,” said customer Jennifer Jarcke.
Turner admits people who don’t necessarily find vintage fascinating like to take time to check out his bus.
Many people perusing through feel at home.
“I’m a child of the 70’s so I think a lot of cool things happen in buses,” said customer Leslie Kitziger.
To Turner ‘vintage’ is more than style. It is what we should value.
“I’ve been working with kids with special needs for the past six years,” said Turner.
He wants his new business to pay the bills so he can help more.
“I think in the vintage thing and working with people that are maybe to some of our society maybe not everyone, but maybe see people as outcasts they don’t treat them like they are fully human beings you know. I think learning to see the beauty in things that you don’t normally miss, but taking the time to see the beauty in things,” said Turner.
If there’s something you like and want to try it on, there is a dressing room in the back.
“This is hopefully where people find out that this is a great piece for them and that it fits them great and that they should buy it from me,” said Turner.
In a place where you’ll find value in what was forgotten after remembering it’s timeless.
