Local Designer Promotes “Peace, Love, and Feathers”

Ashley Featherston has the perfect moniker to compliment her rock-n-roll jewelry line, TheFeatherJunkie. The UNT Fashion Merchandising graduate promotes "Peace, love, and feathers," with her uber cool line of earrings and hair extensions created from -- you guessed it -- feathers.

Gwyneth Paltrow showed off her fondness for feathers during her recent Grammy performance, and even if you're not headed down the red carpet anytime soon, bohemian accessories are a must-have to compliment the seventies-inspired looks on racks this Spring. (See more Spring Trends here)

Each of Featherston's pieces are handmade right here in Dallas, and you can request specific, custom combinations of feathers to create your own look. Each pair of earrings runs around $20, and you can select from a variety of lengths. What could be better than one-of-a-kind jewelry that won't break your budget?

Featherston's creativity truly shines in her extension collection. Choose the clip-in option to wear your extensions at your discretion, or for a more permanent way to have a feather fling, purchase the extension application kit, tools, and how-to video directly from Featherston.

The extension selections come with quirky names like "PINK about it" and "Do you LILAC it?," and our pick from among Featherston's combos is the earthy, "O'Natural." Expect to pay around $20 for one set of extensions, with additional costs added for the application option you choose.

Even the pros have caught feather fever. Featherston says that roughly 80 percent of her business comes from sales to the hottest salons in Dallas. Additionally, you can find TheFeatherJunkie at various festivals and shows around the metroplex.
