Former Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin was greeted Friday by hundreds of people who lined up early for the only North Texas stop of her book-signing tour.
Palin signed copies of her new book, "Going Rogue," at Legacy Books in Plano. The book has sold more than 1 million copies since it was published two weeks ago.
About 1,500 people queued up at the independent bookstore to see Palin. Some fans lined up before dawn during near-freezing temperatures to be among the first to greet her.
Only ticketed customers were allowed to go inside the store. The bookstore said it sold out of tickets two days after it announced the sale.
Tickets for the 11 a.m. signing were circulating online Thursday night on Web sites such as Craigslist. But with asking prices as high as $500, many fans of the former Alaska governor were left out in the cold.
“If it does snow, I hope people like the snow as much as Alaskans do, because it will sort of seem appropriate for Mrs. Palin,” Legacy Books spokesman Kyle Hall said Thursday night.
Legacy Books in Plano is the only public book-signing stop Palin will make in Texas. From Plano, she headed to Fort Hood for a private book signing with members of the military and their families.
Her visit comes a month after an Army psychiatrist is accused in a mass-shooting spree on the Texas Army post that killed 13 and wounded dozens more.
Palin hasn't been speaking to most reporters during her tightly controlled, stay-on-message book tour.
