Yes, art is in the eye of the beholder, but who beholds this in high regard?
According to DC9 at Night, one of the Dallas Observer blogs, a sculptor named Daniel Edwards created a statue depicting a nude Selena Gomez and nude Justin Bieber joined at the hip.
Edwards is the same guy who created a piece called Suri Cruise’s Baby Poop Bronzed, an almost literal piece of crap.
Because the Bieber-Gomez creation is such high art it’s destined for a North Texas debut on a yet-to-be-determined date at the New Fine Arts — a porn shop — location on West Northwest Highway. That about says it all.
To be fair, Edwards covered the really naughty bits with, respectively, a maple leaf, because Bieber is Canadian, and a star, as in lone, because Gomez hails from Grand Prairie, but what is that Canadian goose doing to the armadillo?
Yes, art is for art’s sake but for Pete’s sake creating statues of naked teenagers probably should be left to the Ancient Greeks. They were good at it.
