Purse Thief Swipes Remains of Victim's Father

A thief who broke into a car in Austin and stole a purse also swiped an irreplaceable family item, the ashes of the victim's father.

Police said the purse contained ashes, the cremated remains of 89-year-old Charles Postell. Charlene Postell had planned to bury her father's ashes on Friday in Pflugerville.

Postell said she and some relatives had lunch Thursday, then returned to her car to discover a window was busted and her niece's purse was missing. Postell said the ashes were in a box, labeled with her father's name, in the bag.

Austin police are investigating.
