Cowboys backup quarterback Brandon Weeden was back at practice on Monday after missing a week with a concussion, suffered in the preseason loss to the San Francisco 49ers on August 23.

Weeden said he expects to be available for the preseason finale against the Texans at AT&T Stadium on Thursday.

That’s the plan unless something changes between now and then,” Weeden said, per Todd Archer of ESPN Dallas. “Still a few things we’ve got to do. But I feel better than expected.”

The unexpected week off notwithstanding, Weeden is feeling much more comfortable in the offense now than he was at this time last year, his first with the Cowboys.

“I’m in there with a lot of younger guys, so I’m telling them, ‘Hey, you’ve got (this route) here. You’ve got this,’” Weeden said. “I’m telling every guy what to do. So it helps me, it helped me last year kind of getting a really good grasp of this offense. Now I can kind of explain and I’m not having to think quite as much.”
